Why Turning 50 Feels More Empowering Than Ever
This year isn’t just any new year for me. It holds a particularly special significance because later this month, I’ll be celebrating a milestone: turning 50. If you had asked me when I was younger what turning 50 meant, I would have told you it sounded so old—and was beginning of a slow decline. But now as it approaches, I’ve realized something extraordinary. Turning 50 doesn’t feel like the end of something; it feels like freedom.
A New Perspective on Life in Your 50s
For most of my life, I followed society’s rules—striving for a good career, a stable life, and all the things we’re told should make us happy. But as I approach 50, I’ve found myself questioning: What do I truly want?
For many women in their 40s and 50s, this becomes a tipping point. The desire to be true to ourselves grows stronger than the pull to meet societal expectations. And the beauty of this stage is that it’s no longer about what the world wants from us; it’s about what we want for ourselves.
Honoring This Milestone with Meaningful Goals
As I think about how I want to honor this monumental year, my focus is clear: setting goals that bring me joy, fulfillment, and growth. These goals are for no one but me—and I hope they inspire you to reflect on your own aspirations for the year ahead. Here are mine:
1. Learning to Do a Press Handstand
There’s something captivating about the grace and control of a handstand. It’s a skill I’ve admired for years, and this is the year I commit to learning it. While it’s no small feat, the challenge excites me. If you’ve mastered this or have any advice, I’d love to hear it!
2. Dancing More
In my early 20s, I discovered ballroom dancing—this is before it became mainstream thanks to shows like Dancing with the Stars. Dancing was my creative outlet, a way to express myself and experience pure joy. Life, kids, and responsibilities put it on pause, but now it’s time to reclaim that passion. I can’t wait to step back onto the dance floor.
3. Traveling More
When I was a child, my dream wasn’t to become an astronaut or a doctor; I wanted to be a flight attendant. Travel has always enchanted me—from the chaos of airports to the thrill of exploring new cultures and cuisines. This year, I plan to embrace that wanderlust, making time for travel, both near and far, every month.
4. Advocating for Women’s Health
Women’s health in our 40s and 50s is pivotal. What we do now directly impacts how we age. I’m committed to continuing my advocacy—raising awareness and empowering women to prioritize their health. This stage of life is an opportunity to take charge, and I want to inspire others to embrace it fully.
What Are Your 2025 Goals?
As I step into this transformative year, I’m eager to hear from you. What are your goals for 2025? How will you honor yourself and the stage of life you’re in?
Leave a comment or send me a message—I’d love to know. Let’s inspire each other to make this year truly meaningful.
